National Tree Week 25th November – 3rd December

National Tree Week

National Tree Week takes place from the 25th of November to the 3rd of December, and is the UK’s biggest annual festival of trees.

Trees supply us with food, fuel and building materials, they can help reduce flooding, clean our polluted air and water supplies and the provide a habitat for a range of wildlife. The Tree Council is asking the public to get involved with National Tree Week, to raise awareness and appreciation for trees, and to encourage planting.

What Can You Do To Help?

You can find out more about National Tree Week on the Tree Council Website here, or you can take part in an event taking place near you. More information on events taking place can be found here.

FSC General Assembly 2017

FSC, FSC Certification, FSC General Assembly, Interface, Interface NRM, Sustainability, Renewable,

Last week saw the FSC General Assembly taking place in Vancouver. The FSC General Assembly takes place every 3 years, and is an opportunity for the FSC International Membership to come together to discuss the challenges and solutions of responsible forest management, and the future direction of the organisation.

The general assembly of FSC members is the highest FSC platform for decision-making.

You can find out what was discussed and the outcomes of this here.

This week Interface NRM has seen enquiries from the Decking and Automobile Industries, in Chesire and Norwich who wish to become FSC Certified.

If you are interested in finding out more about FSC Certification and how it can be of benefit to your company, one of our dedicated staff would be more than happy to assist you. We can be contacted on 01952 288325, you can initiate a live chat or you can complete our online enquiry form.

Pattens Rock Woodland Visit

FSC; Woodland; Benthall; Benthall Edge Woods; Severn Gorge Countryside Trust; Ironbirdge; World Heritage Site; FSC Certification; Interface; Pattens Rock

During the very sunny, bank holiday weekend our Sales, Marketing and Admin Specialist, Amy has been out exploring Pattens Rock Quarry in Ironbridge. This is surrounded by the very beautiful Benthall Edge Wood, which is managed by Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

Severn Gorge Countryside Trust is a registered charity that was set up in 1991, and they are the main land manager of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. In total they look after 700 acres of land, all of which is open to the public to use and enjoy. Benthall Edge is a wooded landscape overlying limestone, coal and clay, mixed with ironstone. This geology influences the plants that grow here. On the limestone areas, ash trees prefer the alkaline soil whereas oak trees grow on the slightly acidic soil of the clay/coal measures.

The landscape bears scars of collapsed clay adits, drift mines and spoil heaps. Most of the woodland would have been cut to make charcoal to fuel the iron furnaces before the advent of coke. Remnants of the charcoal hearths are still visible today.

Further information can be found on the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust website here.

By implementing FSC Certification into your business you can reduce your environmental impact – which will help to maintain or restore the ecosystem, its biodiversity resources and the wonderful landscapes such as Benthall Edge Woods.

Last week we certified clients in the Printing and Distribution Industries in Scotland and Suffolk for FSC certification – linking the well-managed and beautiful FSC forests with products that discerning companies and consumers can preferentially purchase.

If you are interested in finding out more about FSC Certification and how it can be of benefit to your company, one of our dedicated staff would be more than happy to assist you. We can be contacted on 01952 288325, you can initiate a live chat or you can complete our online enquiry form.

Chain of Custody Certification

Chain of Custody Certification is very busy this week, with Auditors visiting Hinckley, Swanscombe and Norfolk.

Last week saw requests for quotes from Architectural Companies in Bath and Birmingham, also a Commercial Printing Company in Colchester.

These companies want to display responsible procurement with an independent Certification System. This in turn shows to their clients that they can meet specific requirements.

There is a fact sheet containing more information on this, on the FSC website which can be found here.

Why FSC?

FSC helps with sustainable forest management thus protecting the plants, animals and people who live in them. A YouGov poll shows that 72% of the British public is fairly likely to have a preference towards FSC Certified products.

There is a growing market for responsibly sourced timber, so why not join the businesses who have already made the choice to source responsibly by obtaining FSC Certification? You could gain a more diverse customer base by being certified with us and showing the FSC logos on your products. You’ll be entered on to the FSC database, where consumers who are searching specifically for products like yours can find your company and it’s contact details immediately, and know that you are conscious about sustainability. FSC can improve your credibility with consumers and stakeholders and make a positive statement about your company’s stance on deforestation and sustainability.

We are accredited by ASI and UKAS, so get in touch today via 01952 288325, initiating a live chat or filling out our enquiry form.
