During the very sunny, bank holiday weekend our Sales, Marketing and Admin Specialist, Amy has been out exploring Pattens Rock Quarry in Ironbridge. This is surrounded by the very beautiful Benthall Edge Wood, which is managed by Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

Severn Gorge Countryside Trust is a registered charity that was set up in 1991, and they are the main land manager of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. In total they look after 700 acres of land, all of which is open to the public to use and enjoy. Benthall Edge is a wooded landscape overlying limestone, coal and clay, mixed with ironstone. This geology influences the plants that grow here. On the limestone areas, ash trees prefer the alkaline soil whereas oak trees grow on the slightly acidic soil of the clay/coal measures.

The landscape bears scars of collapsed clay adits, drift mines and spoil heaps. Most of the woodland would have been cut to make charcoal to fuel the iron furnaces before the advent of coke. Remnants of the charcoal hearths are still visible today.

Further information can be found on the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust website here.

By implementing FSC Certification into your business you can reduce your environmental impact – which will help to maintain or restore the ecosystem, its biodiversity resources and the wonderful landscapes such as Benthall Edge Woods.

Last week we certified clients in the Printing and Distribution Industries in Scotland and Suffolk for FSC certification – linking the well-managed and beautiful FSC forests with products that discerning companies and consumers can preferentially purchase.

If you are interested in finding out more about FSC Certification and how it can be of benefit to your company, one of our dedicated staff would be more than happy to assist you. We can be contacted on 01952 288325, you can initiate a live chat or you can complete our online enquiry form.
