PEFC Collaboration Fund

PEFC Collaboration Fund Competition Is Now Open

The PEFC collaboration fund competition is now open!

Following on from the 2017 PEFC Stakeholder Dialogue, there appeared to be no question that forest certification needs to embrace modern innovations & technology. In response to this, through the PEFC collaboration fund they are seeking to support members and their partner organisations in their efforts to embrace technology innovation within certification.

What are they looking for?

Ambitious solutions to tackle critical issues like making certification more accessible for smallholders, creating innovative approaches for auditing and data collection, or imagining new ways to engage consumers on sustainability.

They want projects that pioneer new applications of technology and innovation that show promise of new solutions for:

  • Engaging and leveraging society for sustainable forestry
  • Strengthening trust and traceability throughout value chains
  • Creating efficient and accessible sustainable forest management certification
  • Evolving certification processes, data collection and impact measurement

Are you interested in getting involved?

PEFC members, both national members and international stakeholder members, are eligible to apply and must be the main project applicant. Project partners may include all kind of organisations, including private and public sector organisations.

Proposals can request a contribution of up to 50,000 CHF and must have a maximum project time frame of 3 years. The fund will support new and additional activities rather than existing, ongoing work and running costs. Grantees must provide evidence of at least 35% co funding from other sources within the overall project.

You can find out more about this on the PEFC website here.

How Could PEFC Benefit Your Business?

PEFC, Forest, Certification, Sustainability

PEFC is the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, and is the world’s leading forest certification system.

More than 300 million hectares of forests are certified to PEFC’s internationally recognised Sustainability Benchmarks. These supply more than 18,000 Chain of Custody certified companies globally with responsibly sourced timber and wood-based products.

PEFC was founded by small and family forest owners to demonstrate excellence in sustainable forest management.

A recent survey taken by PEFC showed that 54% of consumers who took part, were reassured mostly by the label/logo displayed on the product that environmental considerations and sustainable development have been considered.

PEFC Chain of Custody certification can allow your organisation to demonstrate responsible supply chain management to your customers. It will provide you with a variety of benefits that help the environment, people and your bottom line.

It could also give you access to new markets and a wider range of availability and choice.

It shows business leadership on sustainability and compliance with legislation, and will allow you to have complete trace-ability on any products you supply which display the PEFC label.

You can find more about PEFC Certification on their website here.

This week we have been certifying clients in the Timber Trade and Packaging industries in Warwickshire and Tyne and Wear, who wanted to show that their wood and non-timber forest products have been sourced from sustainably-managed forests.

If you would like to know more one of our dedicated staff would be more than happy to assist you. We can be contacted on 01952 288325, you can initiate a live chat or you can complete our online enquiry form.

PEFC Certification Is Available To All

carpentry-3-1241061

Did you know that PEFC Chain of Custody Certification is available to all companies that manufacture, process, trade or sell timber or timber-based products?

Whether you are a saw or paper mill, manufacturer, trader, distributor, wholesaler, retailer, printer, or paper merchant, PEFC Chain of Custody Certification can provide you with the confidence that you are in alignment with regulatory requirements and have access to a growing global market for responsibly sourced wood and paper products.

PEFC Chain of Custody Certification provides independently verifies assurance that the certified wood contained in a product originates from well-managed forests. In addition, the PEFC Due Diligence System (DDS) minimises the risk that timber comes from illegal harvesting and enables companies to demonstrate alignment with regulatory requirements.

This week we have been busy certifying clients from the Distribution and Bespoke Artistry industries in Cheshire and Powys.

Chain of Custody Certification

Chain of Custody Certification is very busy this week, with Auditors visiting Hinckley, Swanscombe and Norfolk.

Last week saw requests for quotes from Architectural Companies in Bath and Birmingham, also a Commercial Printing Company in Colchester.

These companies want to display responsible procurement with an independent Certification System. This in turn shows to their clients that they can meet specific requirements.

There is a fact sheet containing more information on this, on the FSC website which can be found here.

Sustainability & PEFC

When sourcing wood, the PEFC mark has far reaching implications when it comes to sustainability and biodiversity.

PEFC-certified forests are managed to maintain, conserve and enhance the biodiversity of the forest. This is enforced by making sure that indigenous species are favoured in reforestation and afforestation. The scheme also ensures that chemicals, pesticides and herbicides are substituted for a natural alternative.

Alongside this, the organisation works alongside the native people and communities who rely on the forests, to ensure they maintain their quality of life, by not only minimising any disturbances, but by also protecting water sources and the soil from erosion.

Consumers are becoming proactive in buying sustainable goods, they want to know where their products have come from and the ethics behind the supply chain. PEFC is a great way to show your customers that you’ve considered sustainability, biodiversity and native communities.
